Results from Last Night

Alright, an update on yesterday's attempt at Head Band Curls.
After sleeping on it all night. You can see how frizzy it was. (I had to get creative to get a good pic.)

I remind myself of Olivia Newton-John.

lol. and yes, I had to then listen to the song....
Make-shift shower cap out of a wal-mart bag.

After I fluffed them a little and added a clip. Man did my hair scrunch up though.

You can see a little bit of the wave caused by the braid I wore yesterday but I think it added to the hairstyle.
Overall, I am kind of impressed with the style. But, then again, my hair will hold any crease or wave or curl you put in it. I was actually worried about the crease caused by the headband but my hair puffed up over it so it made it look more like part of the curls.

And, I never realized how sexual Oliva Newton-John's song Physical really is. I guess I have not heard it in a long time either. But, it is written in a way with a video that makes you think it is more innocent than it is. Kind of how I thought LMFAO's Sexy and I Know It was a great confidence booster... that was until I saw the video. Caution... it will change your life and you will see things that can never be unseen lol.

Off to work and excited for my measurements tomorrow!!! :)

Preparing for St. Pat's

Alright so I am preparing for St. Pat's and am going in new directions. I have never really been one to get into celebrating St. Patrick's Day so this year is really weird for me. I used to work at a greeting card store and so I collected earrings for every holiday to wear at the store. A lot of people thought it was cute and my co-workers even enjoyed seeing my different earrings. Now, I work at a job which any earrings must be studs, smaller than a dime, and flat to the ear. Umm... none of my earrings that I have worn in the last 3 years fall under that category. Yes, I can wear all my fancy earrings when I sub, but that is not when I see all the people and deal with customers anymore. So, in keeping with the unnaturally cheerful "at work" me I came up with hair bows. I can do hair bows for every occasion!

I consider myself crafty and creative. This should be easy! Yeah... nope. I bought some green 1/8" silky ribbon, some 1/4" silver metallic ribbon, and some 3/8" green gross grain ribbon. Along with that some cute alligator hair clips, some green buttons with glitter in them, and a shiny rhinestone button to work into the ribbons.  Now... I cannot figure out cute bows that I want to make! And the ones I want are not working out for me. Here's a list of links that I have been looking at:

This one is cute, but I am having trouble getting my glue to work. I bought clear Tacky Glue and it apparently is not meant for fabric? So tomorrow I may have to dig out the ol' glue gun and try not to burn myself. I did stitch together the shamrock part only to have the ends drive me insane! I now see why she said they can be glued down.

A pretty shamrock! I could do this, but after the fail with the Tacky Glue I figured I would wait to try it until I had the hot glue gun out. I am also worried about how big it will be on my head?

I tried this with the gross grain ribbon a little bit and I think it would look cute on a clip too. Possibly attach a button to one end somewhere? Hot glue will be needed to attach anything to these clips though...

If only I could stand to use this kind of barrette!

I was thinking of using some left over fabric from my boyfriend's surprise for the world for St. Pat's to make me one of these. Feathers may add a nice touch but I did not get any of them. Maybe a bow with the button?

Here is just some cute ideas for St. Pat's decor. The Rosettes got me to thinking about doing them with fabric and a button instead of paper and putting it on a clip.

And the paper roses I have always been intrigued about. Maybe not for this holiday, but Easter or just Spring would be cool to make a barrette out of them.

I made one of these out of the metalic ribbon and a small button instead of a rhinestone. A picture will follow.

And, in the process of trying to find bows I like and want to make, I discovered some hair style video tutorials. I tried this one, and am ok with the result. (Picture to follow)

I added a flower in the middle to hide some of the flaws after taking pictures. I think it would look better and more like it should when my hair grows out. It has to be the easiest braid I have done in my life yet!

Otherwise, I undid that hair style when I got home from a trip to the store and dinner with a friend to do this with my hair. I will have to try and take pictures tomorrow to post. So far I think my headband is too tight and is giving me a headache. i already have naturally curly hair so I am sure my curls will be extreme.

And I have to say, this lady has a lot of awesome tutorial videos for hair styles. I originally found her clover ponytail one which led me to the others. Some are a little young for me, but others are cool.

Vitamins!!!

Well, I did not take my vitamins yesterday due to a side effect of them... I do not get hungry. I have to take them with food and it is hard to force myself to eat when I am not hungry. Currently I am not sure if my lack of appetite is good or bad. I do still eat though. Yesterday I think I ate some spaghetti around 2pm and then we went out for dinner where I had some delicious Blackened Salmon with rice and extremely salty green beans. But, with that being said, I was not starving hungry when we ate either. Today I woke up and was hungry again so I had a peanut butter banana sandwich with some vitamins and then a burrito for lunch with two pickles. Oh, and a bowl of my homemade ice cream for a snack between. Still not a lot and not near my normal amount of food intake.

Oh, I also need suggestions on resolutions for next week! Sunday will be here before I know it!

Random List of Thoughts and Kony 2012

So I always think of great things to blog about when I am in the shower, but by the time I get out I cannot remember what they were. This makes me sad sometimes.

One thing I wanted to blog about is shampoo. Has anyone heard of going shampoo free? You google it and there are tons of blogs and sites about being "poo free." Well, since I switched shampoos to sulfate-free shampoo I have had some hair issues. I originally was using a simple shampoo I guess you could call it. It is just shampoo and nothing fancy. No "extra moisture" "friz free" or such thing. Well, after using it for a bit my hair started to get greasy. Not the typical, have not washed my hair in a few days oily, but full on greasy. The first three inches or so at least. I switched to a fancier shampoo which is still sulfate free.

My hair is still getting a little gross. Now, it is not horrible or anything and as long as I am showering daily it does not seem visible. But, how this relates to going "poo-free" is they talk about the fact that the sulfates are detergents. I have learned that there are harmful and non-harmful sulfates and the shampoo I am using does still have a form of sulfate in it. The various detergents are what strip your hair of the natural oils. People who I have found reviewing going without shampoo all talk about having a de-tox kind of period where their hair gets really gross for a bit then evens out and is way better than before. My hypothesis is that the sulfate-free shampoo has less detergent in it which is not stripping my hair of the oils so my hair is currently over producing still and will hopefully even out and make my hair gorgeous! Any thoughts about this???

Oh, and another thing to blog about... Kony 2012. Now, I am not a political person in any way really and do not get on my soap box about a lot. This morning I saw a bunch of Facebook posts which prompted me to watch a video about Kony 2012 so I did. First, before even mentioning anything about Kony himself in this post, I would like to point out that the video states in the beginning that this is an experiment. Guess what? His experiment is working. (Here is the video if you were wondering.)

From what I got out of the video is the experiment is to broadcast this out there and to get it to spread through Facebook. Let me say this is spreading faster than standing brooms!!! The experiment is working. It is a little sad if you think about it since Facebook is now our news source and gets word about things out faster than any news source. So, his experiment is working and the word is getting out there and spreading.

Now, as far as the message, yes, I think it is a good one. Is it the only one of the same kind that should be spread? No. But yes, this deserves to be viral and shared. I am one for looking at our own problems before pointing out those of others and will begin a debate about the commercials for feeding the youth of every other country for just cents a day if prompted in daily conversation. We have a lot of starving children in our own country and I think we should take care of our own before sending our money elsewhere.

See, there I go... anyway, I think someone finally got smart and realized how to use the quick spreading of Facebook information for a great reason! So, I am going to take it beyond Facebook and spread the word on my blog too.

Week 10 Cont.

So, I went and bought some seeds today. I got most of them started but then realized I forgot to plant the bell peppers. That shall be completed tomorrow hopefully. I did not go all out and buy up all the seeds I would need, but I got the ones which the planting calendar said I should get started inside now. This year I am thinking of just planting seeds straight into the garden mostly. The calendar I am using only gives dates to start tomatoes and peppers inside then transplant them. Now, I just have to convince my sister to leave my garden alone! She used to plant some things in it, but last summer I was the one mowing the yard and weeding the few plants we planted. I think this year she will end up being more proactive if I get it going and then she can mess with it.

So far I have seeds started for jalapeno peppers, big boy tomatoes, a type cherry tomatoes, cilantro, chives, and marigolds. The marigolds are to plant around the garden and anywhere else. I hope to possibly get some broccoli, spinach, corn, celery and a few other things to grow out there as the time and paychecks come along. Now, I just need to find a tiller to till the garden with...

Oh, and I finally broke down and am making ice cream!!!! It is currently setting up in the freezer. I am making it with honey and some local milk I heard about awhile ago. I thought about using this milk when I asked a guy I work with if the jar of milk he had with him was fresh. I was hoping it was and that I could get some fresh milk to make my ice cream with but he told me it was not, it was a kind of milk he bought at the store. It comes from a local dairy and has about an inch or more of cream at the top when you buy it at the store. Local-ish milk? Lots of cream? Glass half gallon jug? What could be better for ice cream than a milk high in fat and comes in a cool container?!?! Now, what do I do with the rest? ...

Week 10: Vitamins

This week has been a LONG week. I am also going to admit right away that I am failing at my resolution to work out at least three times a week. I am hoping when my new work schedule gets ironed out it will help. Monday and Tuesday I was doing new hire training and was on my feet a lot in the 7 to 8 hours I worked each day. Then Wednesday I was up and out the door at dawn for a job interview for teaching. But, it was an hour away and then an hour back home. After a quick change of clothes I was headed 2 hours in the other direction to the airport to pick up the boyfriend. It took 2.5-3 hours coming back. All I have to say about that is if a road is labeled as "South" it should be heading in a southerly direction!!!! Thursday and Friday I substituted all day then worked 5-9 on my feet, on the concrete floors. Saturday and then yesterday, Sunday, I worked full 8 hour shifts on my feet. Let me just say my WHOLE body feels like I was hit by a bus or something. When I woke up this morning even my fingers were swollen and sore. Working out this week just was not meant to be and I counted my hours of walking and standing on those floors as my workout.

I did wake up on Sunday morning to do my measurements and it has been a crazy week for them. Since starting a job where I constantly talk and greet customers and walk all day I have been sucking down water like a fish! It is not a bad thing, water is good for ya, but I have also been peeing a lot. This also contributed to the water weight gain I had all week along with the fact I was in the middle of my menstrual cycle. I typically do not get too bloated, tired yes, but not bloated. This week was different and I gained a lot of weight through the week. Sunday I was glad to see I was no longer around 172 lbs.

On another note, this week's resolution is to be sure to take my vitamins daily. Sounds silly, but until I can afford an ALCAT test I am going to have to rely on the next best thing to fight fatigue. My home income thing has some AMAZING vitamins and they really do the trick. The boyfriend even encourages me to take them since I get horribly cranky when I am tired. My problem is that I never remember to take them. I have to take them with food and some days when I am rushing out the door I forget to grab them. This week I must start remembering them daily. Next week I may be adding to the list for vitamins too. Currently I take a multi vitamin and two calcium pills? It is suggested that women take a lot of calcium and they come in a pack. I am supposed to take them twice a day, but once is enough for me. Next week I may add a fish oil to the mix to see if it will help with the swelling and soreness from working all day.

So, you can see from my measurements this week there was still some bloating going on and I think the cement floors are working on my leg muscles. The decrease in the chest measurement is probably due to the sports bra I was wearing. I typically try to wear the same bra each time, but was too lazy to put it on this time. I am not even sure if I should measure with a bra or not, but oh well...
